Who doesn’t love to travel? Despite having serious wanderlust pretty much all of the time, unfortunately our budgets don’t always match our quest to visit new and exciting places. With air fares and hotel fees increasing year on year, it feels that travelling could become more of a luxury than ever before. However, it is possible to satisfy your appetite for travel and you can do so on a budget.
Budget-friendly breaks
Whether you are looking for a cheap city break or an exotic holiday further afield, there is always a will and a way to travel on a budget and here’s how and where you should go.
Romania has been on our radar for a while now, but it seems that there has never been a better time to go, so why not add it to your travel bucket list for 2019? If you love charming medieval architecture, wonderful wine and great food – Romania is the place for you. It’s a beautiful country with a stunning landscape and it’s cheap too. Expect to easily spend no more than $30-40 dollars a day – handy if you are on a budget.
Ramble in Romania
Armenia is also a good choice for travellers in 2019. If you like going to places that are off the beaten trail a bit, Armenia is a great choice. Best of all, you can survive on a fairly basic budget of around $20 per day.
Jungle Jaunts
If you want to travel a bit further afield, you could try Guatemala which is often considered to be a cheaper alternative to Costa Rica. It has a lot of similar qualities that travellers to Costa Rica love such as the lush jungles in the north of the country, the intriguing Mayan temples of Tikal and more. You can survive on a decent budget of between $25 – $45 per day.
I want to be in America
They say that America is the land of opportunity and when you consider that, on average, you will find a billionaire out of every 1.586.206 people, prosperity is certainly thriving! Despite there being so much wealth, there are certainly some great hostels, b&b’s and hotels to stay in on a budget that won’t break the bank, but can still provide you with a sense of luxury. Backpacking in America will always be a bit more pricey than Central or Southern America, but there are always cheap diners to eat in and plenty of free stuff to do such as a walk in a beautiful park.
Rockin’ Riads
If you are looking for a cultural but exciting break, Morocco is a brilliant choice for backpackers and travellers on a budget. It has a great selection of hostels to stay in. If you have a little bit more money to spend, you could consider staying in a local riad – a traditional Moroccan dwelling which comes with a pleasant courtyard. What could be more inspiring (and instagrammable!) than gazing up at the Milky Way in the middle of a sand dune in the desert?!
Hello Hanoi
Vietnam is a beautiful country full of culture and beauty. Travellers can enjoy the likes of Hanoi’s Old Quarter and the picturesque riverfront in Hoi An, which is adorned with the prettiest coloured lanterns. However, it is relatively cheap to stay in and you can eat in the most amazing restaurants and drink local beer which costs less than an evening paper!
If you are planning to travel for a long period of time, you could also look to take on short term jobs whilst you are travelling around the world. Not only will you get to earn money to help fund your travels, you will also get to meet other like-minded people and learn new skills too. What could be a better way to travel the world and earn money as you do so?! Travelling can be truly addictive and it is very easy to feel like it is not accessible to you, but there is always a cheap way to travel and, after all, it is all about the travel experience, which is priceless.
