Think about it. How many times have you passed a free event or decided to pay to use a private pool instead of your neighborhood’s? Here are just a few things you may be spending too much (or unnecessary) money on…
Free Stuff You’re Not Using
If you’re looking for something to do you may consider one of the following free activities/events that you’re probably not using:
- Free Movie Tickets – Many movie theaters will give away free or discounted tickets on certain days of the week. For instance, the local theater offers $5 movie tickets on Tuesdays. If you want a free ticket you’ll likely have to keep an eye out for a promotion or giveaways. Some blood drives give away movie tickets for donating your blood.
- The Library – Not many people head to their public library any more but they oftentimes have free events, seminars and, of course, books. Heading to the library can save you a ton of money on entertainment because you’ll be taking advantage of something that is already freely available to you.
- Community Events – Some local community centers will hold free events for members of the community. For example, a senior center may hold free bridge classes for senior citizens or the local park may hold a free movie on the lawn. If you keep an eye out for these events in your town you’ll be able to take advantage of the free events.
- Your Neighborhood Pool/Clubhouse – If your neighborhood has a pool or clubhouse you’re likely already paying for it in homeowner’s association’s fees so why not use it? Most clubhouses are available to residents to reserve for parties and gatherings, and during the summer neighborhood pools can really come in handy for saving money and staying home.
- The Park – Your local park is another free thing you’re probably not taking advantage of. There are usually walking trails, places to sit, playground equipment for kids and some parks even hold free events.
Arguably, many of these things are “paid for” through taxes, HOA fees or blood but they continue to be passed up by many people for activities and events that cost money. Why not save the extra cash and head to the library or get some sun at your neighborhood pool?
