3 Things You Can Do to Prevent Heart Disease

September 21, 2020 by Susan Paige

Do you want to live a long, happy, and healthy life? If so, it’s imperative that you do all you can to fend off heart disease. Tending to your ticker is one of the most important tasks that you face, which is why you need to get serious with regard to it.

Of course, there are some heart disease risk factors (age, gender, race, family history, etc.) that you simply cannot change. For the most part, however, if you put the following advice into practice, you will stand a much better chance of being able to avoid this potentially fatal health complication.

Here are three things you can do to prevent heart disease:

Control your blood pressure

Allowing your blood pressure levels to spike will increase your chances of suffering a heart-related health complication. If you want to avoid this unfortunate plight, you need to embrace the following advice on a daily basis:

  • Eat a diet that is rich in low-fat dairy, fruits, and whole grains
  • Reduce your intake of sodium (eat fewer processed foods and stop adding salt to every dish)
  • Limit yourself when it comes to drinking alcohol
  • Cut back on caffeine
  • Stop smoking
  • Reduce your stress levels

On top of doing all of the above, you should also wear accurate fitness trackers with blood pressure measurement features. Doing this will allow you to keep a track of your blood pressure over a sustained period of time. Should you ever notice your blood pressure rate rising, you will know to stop doing whatever is you are doing to cause the problem. Also if you want to measure your blood pressure you can use one of the fitness trackers for blood pressure recommended in that article.

Maintain a healthy weight

Obesity is also proven to have a negative impact on the heart. If you’re serious about looking after your ticker, you seriously need to find a way to maintain a healthy weight. To stand a better chance of performing this all-important task over a more sustained period of time, you must:

  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat breakfast every morning
  • Fill your diet with protein
  • Don’t be afraid to weigh yourself
  • Be mindful of your carbohydrate intake
  • Most importantly, prepare yourself for setbacks

Get plenty of sleep

Sleep plays a crucial role when it comes to deterring heart disease. Not getting enough rest on a nightly basis will have a detrimental impact on your blood pressure, it will make you more likely to suffer with weight-related health complications, and it will increase your risk of diabetes. All three of these plights can, and will, increase your chances of suffering with a heart disease of some kind at some point in your life… so make sure you start taking bedtime a bit more seriously! Ideally, you need to aim for at least 7 hours of sleep per night.

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in America? If you don’t want to be impacted by this common and incredibly dangerous health condition, it’s absolutely essential that you heed all of the advice laid out above. Eat well, stay fit, and do all you can to look after your ticker.
