What Should I Do Today? 5 Random Ideas That’ll Add Zest to Your Weekend!

March 29, 2019 by Susan Paige

Boredom can be a real drag, but it might be more complex than you think. In fact, science shows that there are actually multiple classifications of boredom.

With so many different ways to be bored, the struggle to entertain yourself (or friends and family) can be somewhat of an uphill battle. You may find yourself saying, “What should I do today?” on any given weekend.

Even in the most heavily populated areas with tourist attractions and traps around every corner, people can still have trouble figuring out what to do. To help with that, we’re going to show you five ideas to get you out and having fun right now!

1. Expand Your Mind

If you keep thinking, “There’s not a lot of things to do near me,” then it might mean your brain needs some good ol’ stimulation.

Search for local museums, art galleries, or make a stop by your library. Libraries, in particular, are a great way to have fun and learn a thing or two.

You may think libraries are a thing of the past since we have the Internet in our pockets, but libraries are still a way to get some hands-on learning. Not to mention they’re also essential for building healthy communities. You can take comfort in the fact that you’re giving back to your neighborhood by participating in this institution.

Plus, if you’re looking for things to do on a Sunday, a lot of community museums and galleries will have free days open to the public.

2. Bask in the Boredom

Basking in boredom might seem like an odd way to cure boredom, but there’s something to be said about enjoying downtime.

When all else fails, it can’t hurt to just tune out the world and get some much-needed rest to clear your mind. Why not take a deep breath, sit or lay down, play some white noise or put on noise-canceling headphones, and try meditation?

3. Escape Some Rooms

If there’s one thing we’ve seen grown in epic proportions in the past decade or so, it’s the Escape Room.

Escape Rooms can vary in themes and atmosphere from jails to horror settings, but the premise usually remains the same. You have to physically escape a series of rooms using riddles, clue, and key items.

It can test your problem-solving abilities and be a blast for anyone looking for fun stuff to do!

4. Get Creative

Some studies show that boredom can lead to increased creativity.

So if you’re bored, why not indulge your right brain and try out a few new (or old) activities:

  • Write a short story or poem
  • Make a paper airplane
  • Try your hand at origami
  • Build a sculpture out of Legos

No matter what you do, make sure you create something for yourself or a friend.

5. Be Productive

If you find yourself bored on the weekend, maybe it’s time to do something productive.

Declutter your wardrobe or kitchen, clean the bathroom, file your taxes, or maybe even get ahead of your workload for the coming week. It may not be the most fun thing to do, but this could very well be your opportunity to get work done that you otherwise wouldn’t!

Solving the “What Should I Do Today” Problem

The reality is that boredom shouldn’t be the end of the world. Take joy and pleasure in the little things by meditating or going on a walk or run and enjoying the beautiful weather.

When all else fails, get creative or get productive and try something you don’t normally do! If you’re bored and wondering, “What should I do today?” consider these freelancer apps for a little bit of side money.
