The value of vacation affording your next holiday

March 1, 2023 by Susan Paige

While you may have dreams of taking a luxury vacation this year, your bank balance might say otherwise. Rather than considering taking out a loan, or foregoing your plans for good, you may be able to compromise and still get to take a trip. Doing so could involve considering the different aspects of a vacation, from the essentials right down to those little added extras, to see which is vital and which could be potentially gotten rid of. This might mean changing your destination, or even going away for a few days as opposed to a few weeks. However, the end result can still be some time abroad to allow you to decompress.

Prioritize your welfare

Looking after yourself can be crucial, regardless of whether your trip will be for a few days or even a few months. One of the ways you can accomplish this, and potentially reduce future costs, can be through student medical travel insurance. Your usual medical cover may not be valid for travel abroad, which could see you stuck with a large bill if you require medical attention while away from home. Travel insurance can offset these costs, for a relatively small amount of money. This means that, should you become ill or injured, you may be able to speak to a doctor and receive the required treatment without needing to concern yourself about affordability.

Pick your destination carefully

Some countries throughout the world may cost less to travel to than others. While you might have your heart set on a lavish vacation, this may not be available to you at this time. Instead, it might be a better idea to research the different countries you can travel to from your closest airport, and figure out which may be the cheapest to stay in. This doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t have some niceties. Some countries may offer decent hotels for a fraction of the price of more luxurious resorts, and still have plenty to do in the surrounding area.

Book your flights in advance

The cost of flights can vary throughout the year, as well as for the dates you wish to travel. Generally speaking, it may be more expensive to go on vacation during peak times, such as when the schools close for summer. Therefore, if you don’t have children, it might be far more prudent to go when school is still in session. You may also find that it is cheaper to book your flights around four months in advance. This may mean that you need to save money up until that point and then look at what is affordable. In some cases, last-minute deals may be available. However, these aren’t always guaranteed, so forward planning could be ideal.

Taking a vacation can be soothing for both your body and mind. Keeping your budget in mind, and considering the best ways to reduce current and potential future costs, could allow you to take a much-needed break this year.
