There are several aspects of vaping that promote themselves to hobbyists. Cloud chasing, building mods and DIY e-Juice creation are just a couple of them.
What is DIY e-Juice?
One of the few drawbacks of vaping is the cost of e-juice, especially given the fact that you can burn through it quickly. Also, often times, your choices are limited. Luckily, there’s a solution that is as simple as making your own e-Juice. So, it’s not surprising that DIY e-juice is growing hobby has become an obsession among the vaping society. With a little practice and guidance, you will perfect your bottle of vape to such an extent that the difference between your bottle and a shop-bought one will be non-existent.
How to make your own e-Juice?
Making your own e-liquid, involves mixing together the four main elements:
- Propylene Glycol or PG. An odorless, colorless liquid is used to provide a ‘throat hit’, described by many users as similar to the sensation experienced when smoking tobacco. Make sure to use the one without additives.
- Vegetable Glycerine or VG. A chemical derived from vegetable oil is used to give a ‘thick’ sensation to vapour.
- Nicotine. It’s important to buy good quality nicotine. The amount of nicotine you should use depends on your preferences.
- Flavour Concentrates. These determine what your juice will ultimately taste like. There are thousands of individual flavours to choose from.
You don’t necessarily need to use all of these elements. For instance, you can make a nicotine-free e-liquid or you can control the viscosity of the e-Juice. Viscosity determines how much vapor is produced (it’s very important for the cloud chasers).
The great news here is, you don’t need advanced knowledge of chemical engineering – if you can boil or you can egg, you can make your own vape juice.
Is it safe? FDA regulations.
Unfortunately, and prematurely, government health organizations have come out against non-tobacco flavored e-Juices. The government claims that these flavors promote vaping in teens, but, according to other reports, the opposite is true. Adults are the ones who want the non-tobacco flavors. In conjunction with other studies showing that teen vaping appears to not be a gateway to smoking – or even long-term vaping – it appears that the government response has been heavy handed and overblown.
Also, new FDA regulations to e-cigarettes and other products have naturally posed a question whether these new rules apply for DYI e-juice creation. The conclusion that can be drawn from the article is that the new regulations do not affect consumers creating vaping juices for their own consumption. However, if they create products for outside personal consumption, they’d be considered as manufacturers and be subject to regulations.
Not only can DIY e-Juice provide you with an activity pursued for pleasure or relaxation, it will also make your wallet a little heavier. One of the best aspects of DIY joice creation is that you are not limited to tobacco flavors. Fruits, desserts, candy, savory and other flavorings are popular with long-term vapers to get away from the illusion that they are smoking. Yes, they crave the nicotine, but they aren’t enamored with tobacco flavors.
Finally, let’s not forget. Vaping has assisted long-term smokers to quit and there is plenty of evidence, albeit anecdotal, that the more interesting and hobby-like vaping is, the more likely that former smokers will not go back to cigarettes.
