Budget friendly bathroom redesign ideas

November 4, 2019 by Susan Paige

Our bathrooms have a major influence over how we feel about our homes.  A bathroom that we love can be a little haven at home – a place to relax and unwind in your own personal spa.

But if your bathroom doesn’t meet your needs it can have the opposite effect. Far from being relaxing, it can be a cause of stress and irritation. That’s not a great way to start your day!

If your bathroom doesn’t tick the right boxes, it’s time for a redesign. And if money’s a little tight there’s still plenty you can do to improve things. Here are our top 6 budget friendly bathroom redesign ideas.

  • Upgrade one item

You might not need to replace your entire bathroom suite to improve your space. Perhaps a new, statement bath or a new shower enclosure will give you the change you crave? You can find a beautiful freestanding bath for under £400 and it could deliver the touch of luxury you need. Upgrading your shower might mean a new enclosure, or a new shower unit – but not necessarily both.  Take a good look at what you can keep and what needs to go.

  • Make sure it’s cosy

Sometimes it’s not the look of your bathroom that’s not right, it’s the feel. Any bathroom needs to be warm and welcoming, so look at how it’s heated. This chrome heated ladder towel rail will warm both the room and your towels, and it’s less than £60.

  • Sort your storage

Clutter and mess in your bathroom is enough to make anyone want a change. It’s so much easier to find what you need and keep your room clean if everything has its own place.

Soap, toothbrushes and make-up balancing around your sink is a real no-no, so consider a mirrored cabinet to tidy these things away. If you need a little more light in your bathroom, there are lots of versions out there with built in lighting too.

Add some shelves and storage baskets to one wall and just see what a difference they make.

  • Redecorate

In many bathrooms it’s not the suite that’s the problem but the décor. It’s amazing what a transformation you can achieve with a new shade of paint and perhaps an update to your flooring.

Search #bathroomupdate on Instagram for some great ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots and lots of inspiration.

  • Look at the lighting

Our bathrooms need to be bright to keep you looking your best. Shaving and applying make-up are very tricky in a dimly-lit room, and a bright space is always much more welcoming on a gloomy morning. While recessed spotlights can be expensive to install, a rail of spots will give the same level of light at a fraction of the price.

  • Fluffy fabrics

A very simple way to make your bathroom more inviting is to replace your old bath mats and towels with a new set. It’s surprising how much better you’ll feel about your bathroom space while stepping into a fluffy new towel! Check out the home ranges of supermarkets and high street stores for products that won’t break the bank. This article in the Independent has some great options.
