Barcelona: A City of Art and Architecture

by Susan Paigeon October 9, 2018 ~ Leave a Comment

Located on the coast, Barcelona is the magnifico capital of Catalonia, Spain. This enchanting seaside city is boundlessly cultural and known worldwide for its dine-and-drink scene. This jaw-dropping city is fabled with architecture and famous for its arts. It is the metropolis of art and architecture, that never gets old, even after more than 2,000 years. Barcelona is festooned with buildings to admire from Catalan Gothic to Medieval styled and from Romanesque to Modernist! Before you set sails to Antoni Gaudí’s birthplace, have an insight of the arts and architectures you should see!

La Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia is one of Gaudi’s unfinished masterpiece. It stands as an excellent work of religious devotion and unparalleled imagination. It has been in construction ever since 1882 and is expected to be fully completed by 2022. The first attraction of this building is the breathtaking architecture, innovation and the artistic aspect. You can have an overview of the sleek designs of this renowned building at Moon Games, on the reels of Kingdom of Cash Slot. This slot game is themed on knights of ancient era and the backdrop depicts ancient towers and small homes, which are kind of similar to that of Gaudi’s!

Església de Santa Maria del Mar

Església de Santa Maria del Mar is a notable work of Gothic construction which is the finest church in Barcelona. Designed by Berenguer de Montagut, it is the only surviving church in pure Catalan Gothic style. The outside designs are remarkable, but you will be more impressed once you step in. The lightness of the building is impressive, and the grand polychrome rose window might steal your heart!

Torre Agbar

Designed by Jean Nouvel, this buidling looks like a colourful crystal pointing towards heaven. It is defined as one of the most daring additions to the skyline, after La Sagrada Familia. This 142m tower is a 21st century skyscraper which has served many purposes. The best aspect of the tower is its conceptual designs and bioclimatic architectures. This tower won the 2006 Awards for Excellence by the Urban Land Institute for the European and World Edition.

La Pedrera

Unconventional in appearance, this tower is a modernist buidling by Antoni Gaudi. Built with sensuous curves and surprising touches in every aspect such as light fittings to bedsteads, from balconies to door handles, are simply admirable. It was the last civil architecture project of the artist and is known as a mixture of modernism, expressionism and naturalism.

Palau de la Música Catalana

This famous concert hall is the high point of modern architecture, a masterpiece of brick, tile, stained glass and sculpted stone. Designed and built by Domènech i Montaner from 1905 t0 1908 for a musical society. Also called the Palau, it is an icon of modernist architecture in downtown Barcelona and is one of the most visited places in Barcelona.

These are only few worth visiting architectural palaces of Barcelona. The city breathes beauty and consists of more than hundreds of museums, buildings and operas you might want to see!
