Affordable Home Improvement Projects That You Can Definitely DIY

July 10, 2019 by Justin Weinger

The home that we live in speaks volumes about who we are as people. They give visitors a glimpse into our personalities even before words need to be spoken.

Even a simple but clean house is more than enough to be called a home that you can be proud of. The opposite is true for homes that are poorly maintained, with bits and pieces falling off and broken. With this in mind, no one in their right mind would want to live in a dump.

But not everyone has the money for a fancy remodeling project. Most of us have bills to pay and mouths to feed. So, what are affordable alternatives that allow you to make your house as presentable as possible?

Paint Your Cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are the easiest aspect of your kitchen that you can improve. You can potentially give your kitchen (or any room where you have cabinets) a new look with just a fresh coat of paint.

The process is as simple as removing any old paint with a paint thinner, cleaning the area you’re going to treat and sanding off any surface irregularities. Then, add a layer of primer, let it dry, then add the color that you want to use for your cabinets.

Install Kitchen Rollouts

This upgrade is more of a functional upgrade than an aesthetic one, but it’s going to allow you to store more items in your cabinets without losing access to them when they’re in the deep end of your cabinet.

You can purchase a kitchen rollout set online  or you can build a custom drawer yourself. Make sure to take accurate measurements so your rollouts actually roll the way they’re supposed to.

Refinish Your Front Door

Your front door is pretty much the face of your home. Door replacements are expensive, but there’s an easy way to spruce up an old door. Sand your door, oil the latches and locking mechanism to ensure that your door functions smoothly, and add a fresh coat of paint.

Add A Composite Deck

Outdoor spaces are especially popular during spring and summer. Whether it’s to catch the breeze blowing during hot days or if you want to stargaze at night, you’re definitely going to want an outdoor space. Composite decks are made from 95% recycled materials and this makes them significantly more affordable than traditional materials that you’d use to build a deck. Trex decking is one of the better brands for composite decking.

But that’s not all. After building your composite deck, you need to be able to maintain it. Composite decks are cleaned differently from their conventional counterparts, so you might want to look up some tips to clean Trex decking to make sure it’s done right.

Grass Runner Staircase

Carpeted stairs can be expensive to install and to maintain. Alternatively, you can add a bit of flair to some flights of stairs by using grass runners as an alternative. You use a staple gun to fasten the edges to the stairs so the grass runners don’t move. Grass runners have pretty much the same function of carpets except that they don’t tear, fade, and rip like conventional carpets.

When we have a flair for the arts or if we prefer to keep things business-like, it’s going to show in how our home is styled. Keep these DIY tips in mind next time you’re looking for a quick home improvement project.
