5 Essential Tips When Buying a New Bed Online

November 13, 2019 by Susan Paige

On average, we spend around a third of our lives in bed, so buying a new bed is not a decision to be rushed. In addition, buying a bed online can be a challenge as you don’t have the opportunity to test it out. That’s why many online bed companies offer a long trial period during which you can return the bed for a refund if it’s not right for you. You will have a personal preference when it comes to the style of bed you choose, but there are some more important factors to consider. Here are five essential tips that might come in useful when buying your new bed online.

  • Get the right size

You need to get the right size of bed for your room, including space either side of the bed, so you can have furniture and still move around comfortably. Measure the room and your existing bed if you have one so you can make the right decision. If space is not an issue in your bedroom, then it will come down to what makes you most comfortable and whether or not you will be sharing the bed; for example, do you need a single, double, queen or king-sized bed.

  • Choose the right mattress

A good quality mattress should last for 10 years, so it’s a significant investment to make! You need a mattress that will support your body in the correct places, so you don’t wake up with aches and pains while still being comfortable. Choose mattresses which have been subjected to a lot of testing and have positive reviews from previous customers, like the well-known Saatva mattress.  You should also consider the material of the mattress as there are pros and cons. For example, a latex foam mattress is made from natural materials (unlike a memory foam mattress which is made from harsh chemicals) but is very firm.

  • Compare prices

When you have chosen the size and type of bed you want, your next step is to find one at the right price. There are lots of companies that will advertise sales and limited offers, but it’s best to approach these with caution. There are lots of great deals out there, but it’s always best to compare prices from a range of sources. Some will even be prepared to match the price of a competitor or negotiate on a price.

  • Check delivery arrangements

Your bed will probably be delivered and this will cost extra, so make sure you find out what this will be as soon as possible. There may be restrictions on when the bed can be delivered or a long waiting period, so check this before you commit to buy to ensure your bed will be delivered when you need it.

  • Make a plan to dispose or recycle of your old bed

It’s likely that you will have an old bed to get rid of too. The company you are buying from may offer a service where they take your old bed away for a fee. Alternatively, you arrange for the bed to be collected by a charity store, or the bed may be able to be recycled if the frame is wooden.
